Can health conferences contribute in promotion of physical activity and yoga?: An experience from world noncommunicable diseases congress

n the workshop focusing on the Role of AYUSH and Yoga in NCD on November 3, 2017, Minister of State, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik had graced the occasion showing the importance and support of yoga practices at government level. There were 100 participants. Various experts from all parts of the country participated and shared their experiences and knowledge to the participants about how the yoga especially various asanas could help a person to prevent various NCDs. The major part of these scientific sessions was a practical demonstration of all these asanas by the experts that gave benefit to the participants.

Along with this scientific session, various outdoor physical activity sessions such as walkathon, marathon, and Yoga were also being organized in the early morning of different days of world NCD congress 2017.

On the opening day of World NCD Congress 2017, November 4, 2017, walkathon had been organized; in that around 500 people from all walks of life participated. Many renowned dignitaries and faculties such as Hon'ble Minister of Health of Maldives, chairman organizing committee, World NCD Congress, chairman scientific committee, World NCD Congress, and participants of conference along with the general public of tricity had participated in the walkathon. Hon'ble Minister of Health of Maldives, Mr. Hussain Rasheed had flagged off the walk. Thus, it was spreading the message of importance of physical activity among the scientific community and common people.
