Fifth Siddha Day “Strength of Siddha for communicable diseases”

With the support of Ministry of Ayush, Central Council for Research, National Institute of Siddha in association with Directorate of Indian medicine, Government of Tamil Nadu organised the fifth Siddha Day on 23rd December 2021 at the Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam, Chennai. 

The celebration was conducted following the existing COVID protocol in the state. 

The theme for the fifth Siddha Day was “Strength of Siddha for communicable diseases”.

The celebration begun with the inaugural programme at 10.30 a.m. 
Prof. Dr. K. Kanakavalli, Director General, Central Council for research in Siddha welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering. 

Shri Sarbananda SonowalHon'ble Cabinet Minister, Ministry of Ayush & Ministry of Ports, Shipping and graced the occasion as Chief Guest and delivered the Chief Guest address and insisted in carrying out randomised controlled clinical trial of Siddha Medicine  for the global acceptance. Dr. Munjpara Mahendrabhai Kalubhai Hon'ble Minister of State, Ministry of Ayush and Ministry of Women & Child Development and Shri. Ma. Subramanian, Hon'ble Minister, Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Tamil Nadu participated as the Guest of Honour. 

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Shri Pramod Kumar Pathak Special Secretary, Ministry of Ayush and delivered the presidential address.

Sh. Deopujari Jayant Yeshwant, Chairman, NCISM, Dr. Manoj Nesari, Advisor (Ayurveda), Ministry of AYUSH and Shri. Ganesh, Director, Directorate of Indian Medicine, Government of Tamil Nadu also decorated the stage and delivered the felicitation address.

The work and contributions of CCRS, NIS and DIM&H were released by the Honourable Cabinet Minister.

The souvenir of 5th Siddha Day was released.

The inaugural programme ended with Vote of thanks by Prof. Dr. R. Meenakumari, Director, National institute of Siddha. There was an overwhelming response from the siddha undergraduate and post graduate students and physicians. Nearly 1300 participants registered and 1100 participants attended the celebration. 

The Inaugural session followed by Technical Session.

Three plenary lectures were conducted. The first plenary lecture was delivered by 
Dr. Su. Thillai Vallal, Managing Director of Venkateswara Hospitals on the topic “Integration of Siddha and Allopathy in communicable diseases”. The next lecture was delivered by 
Dr. G. Sivaraman, Managing Director of Arogya Health Care Pvt. Ltd. And Member, State Planning Commission delivered the lecture on “Strength of Siddha for communicable diseases”. The third plenary lecture was on the topic “An integrated approach in combatting the COVID 19 pandemic”. It was delivered by Prof. Dr. K.Thangaraj, Medical Superintendent, SRM Medical College and Research Centre, Chennai. 

 

The COVID warriors from the Government of Tamil Nadu, the District Siddha Medical Officers, Principals of Government and Private Siddha medical colleges were honoured on the occasion of fifth Siddha day by DIM. 

The University toppers in undergraduate and postgraduate category of the Tamil Nadu Dr. M. G. R. Medical University and Thrissur University were honoured with cash award, medal and certificates.

The winners of oral and poster presentations and cultural competitions of the “National Conference on Strength of Siddha medicine” , a fifth Siddha day pre event organised at Coimbatore on 3rd and 4th December 2021 were awarded cash prize and certificates.

CCRS announced the Mini project research grants to the UG and PG students. 7 UG students and 2 PG students received the sanction letter.

Special cultural performance depicting the culture and heritage was showcased after the inaugural ceremony.

Agathiyar fest -2 cultural competitions which includes Group dance -Male, Group dance -Female and Group skit were conducted in the evening. 

The pre-recorded felicitation addresses of Siddha physicians living abroad were played in the big screen.

 Adhering COVID appropriate behaviour the event ended with a valedictory ceremony with DG, CCRS and Director, NIS on the dais. The date of next Siddha day was announced by the Heads of CCRS and NIS.
